Restaurante Burro Velho

Great restaurant just across from Batalha. This is the one the local's favorites and I couldn't agree more. Great food, service and environment.

Great for larger groups as they have several plates for 2-8 people.

Had lunch here after visiting the Batalha Monastery. The four stars is because we waited a few minutes to be seated and the place wasn't that busy, the wait staff saw us but were busy cleaning tables, though there were plenty of tables ready for guests, and once seated we were ignored for over five minutes and had to ask for menus.
Once we got through that, the food didn't take long to be served and everything ordered by our party of four was very good. Two ordered fresh fish from the fish display, one ordered the spaghetti with seafood, and I had a steak. The exception to everything being good was the rice, which was on the hard side. We ordered coffee and dessert and also enjoyed that. We ordered ice cream and pana cotta.
Overall a good experience and we recommend Burro Velho.

This restaurant is amazing!! I had their spaghetti with prawns and mussels and it was the best I've ever had. The skin on the shrimp practically melted off and the spaghetti was flavoured by the juices from the sea food. I still dream about this dish and I wish I had another chance to eat there before I left Batalha. They also have really great seafood pate. This place fills up fast so making reservations for whenever you plan to go is a must!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and great food! We ordered seafood rice for 2 but it was enough to feed 4!

We came here for dinner as there weren't a lot of options in Batalha and we had this as a stop for the night. I'd suggest going here with a bigger group than just 2 people because portions are large and you can't even get any of the fish in smaller portions. The spaghetti with prawns and clams was okay but too oily, my partner's meat was better she said. For the prices, the food did not seem as good as I thought it would be. The wine list is very extensive, which is nice and the coffee-centered dessert was a saving grace.

Food was good but the steak knives were far too dull to cut anything. Visited this place back in Jul 2017.
