Located in a story book like setting, a lovely, quaint, pub, situated in the charming little village of Finchingfield, Essex.

That said, we had to wait for over an hour, to get our food orders. If you've read any of my other reviews, you will know that I rarely complain about this issue. The owner, did come outside, stating that everyone came at once, and it was beyond his control. To be truthful, I was enjoying myself, but not all in my party appreciated the long wait, so be forewarned. If you're on a "time budget," this may not be your place for food. Enjoy a pint and be on your way. It's definitely a beautiful little spot.

I had a BLT, it was good, had worse, had better, it was better than okay . . .Okay?

Would definitely return, and might get the same, but would probably try something else. I do believe that everyone was happy with their meals once they received them.

Staff was helpful, friendly, so no complaints there, and we also had chance to chat up some others traveling through the area, so I personally didn't find the wait all that unbearable.

If I'm anywhere in the area, will definitely stop in again.

Parking, was a bit of a problem for our driver, and you may need to look around if you are here at the wrong time of day. And may need to walk a block of two. Our driver just kept circling a couple times and finally got a spot right on the street, about 25 yds, from the front.

We came here for supper with friends on a warm, sunny evening in August. Service was pleasant and efficient in this rustic, cozy pub. I ordered a Bulmers red berries and lime cider and pan-seared trout with pistachio bacon crust, seasonal vegetables, and roasted potatoes. The cider was wonderfully refreshing-- the mild sweetness of berries with a slight hint of lime was the ideal combination. Only in the UK, eh? Pity... My fresh and perfectly seared trout was paired with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes and tender crisp baby bok choy (which I thought was an interesting selection, but it worked). This was a very hearty supper and I will certainly be back!

Wonderful little inn with a cozy fireplace. We first visited here in the early '60s (we lived next door), and again in 2012. Excellent food and service, genuine English countryside atmosphere.

Roast beef, Yorkshire Pudding, and vegetables.
Beer battered haddock and mushy peas.

A great pub with a great view across the green and pond. Lovely on a spring/summer evening after a short stroll around the village and admiring the windmill. good food and very friendly service.

Disappointing rude and thoughtless treatment by owner of this pub in the charming village of Finchingfield really cast a bad light in an otherwise lovely place. I came in with Sarah this morning to spend about an hour and a half while she saw patients at a nearby home. After spending £22 on a lunch for one the owner promptly came over and asked me to give up my table and move to the bar. I said that wasn't ok and I hadn't even digested my food. Sarah Williams was also on the way back (she's 23 weeks pregnant) to have a bite to eat as well. But this inn keeper wasn't concerned with anything but turning his tables as quickly as possible. I had an exchange with him as he was insulting and clearly not an individual with any business acumen. I was very insulted and disappoint in his treatment of me and I quickly paid my bill and waited for my wife outside instead of in his pub. Really what is wrong with people!? I strongly urge everyone to avoid this guys business.

Can't believe there were no reviews for this great pub. It's got a view of one of the best villages in Essex , right on the village green by the duck pond. Was there last weekend sitting out the front watching vintage cars and bikes out for a run in the sunshine . Every sort of transport passes through here . Superbikes ,supercars , and owners clubs out for a run.
You never know what's coming past .good food beer and service . Top pub.
