Hotel Dorint was great, even if the housekeeping kept throwing out my baked goods! The check-in process was friendly and quick. The room service was delicious and arrived hot in no time at all. The room I had was spacious and had a nice view of Cologne. There is a bar downstairs that made great drinks. The breakfast buffet had everything you could want to eat, including a chef on site to make different varieties of egg dishes. The hotel itself was quiet and clean. The shower was great. The bed was comfortable. The location was wonderful. You are just a short walk away from the Cologne Cathedral! My only complaint, really, is that housekeeping ignored my request to have them not clean my room twice, and each time they threw away my pastries I had purchased to eat when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning! I was on US time zone, so I would wake up at 4AM starving!
I loved exploring Germany from this starting point!

Dorint Hotel am Heumarkt is a pretty nice hotel. The rooms are large, modern, and everything was pretty clean. The hotel is also centrally located and extremely close to all public transit. From Cologne Central station, simply take the U-subway line for 2 stops towards Heumarkt. If the first stop is Rathaus, you're golden.

The customer service here is also top notch. I made the dumb mistake of forgetting cash in the room safe (I didn't figure this out until I was already in another city). While they said they couldn't mail my cash back to the U.S. because of fees/tolls, they exchanged the money into Euros and put that cash back onto my credit card through a refund. Even though the exchange rate was considerably less than the daily market rate, I was just happy to get my money back. A+ for that.

This is probably one of the best hotels I stayed at while in Germany. I booked through Orbitz and got a great deal...about $120 per night, what a steal!

This hotel, located in central Cologne, is one of my favorites in this city. It is roomy and comfortable, from the spacious rooms to the generous bar area, in which a rich variety of cocktails are served. The service is kind and hospitable, and your stay comes with a plentyful amount of perks. For instance the fitness, pool and spa section, to which I would like to pay an extra compliment:

A ticket for the fitness/wellness section will cost you 10 Euros, which are added to your bill at checkout. Towels come with the entrance as well as a key for a locker. You will need to be aware, that bathing suits are prohibited in the spa area. You want sauna, steam bath and other wellness stuff - don't be afraid to go buck naked among other men and women.

However, as opposed to the Danish way (big shower rooms, in which people all to often are seen showering wearing their swimsuits), the Germans have screened showering compartments, which ensures that everyone who is to enter the pool have no excuse to not be clean. In these compartments, you can wash yourself all over and not be impaired by chastity and shyness.

I like this sentiment, as bathing suits all to often carry residues of chlorine along with body bacteria, which are released with the heat in a sauna or in the warm waters of a jacuzzi. However, for the pool, you will need your bathing suit.

The wellness section itself is wonderful, featuring relaxation chairs, bio sauna and steam bath a perfect place for relaxing after a day climbing the Kölner Dom. Highly recommendable, and definitely this hotels biggest trump card!

Stayed over a recent weekend for sightseeing etc.

Excellent location -very close to the old town, cathedral and surrounding attractions (5 mins by foot). Public transportation is steps away. Breakfast is mediocre but sufficient. €10 to access the wellness center (spa, pool etc).

Rooms and bathrooms are slightly larger than the European average (& nicer). Interior seems a bit dated but stylish and comfortable.

Minor cons -Construction next door but not really a disturbance. Parking can be full at times.

Really nice hotel with a central location near the river. The food was very good and the bar was comfortable. This is one of the best hotels i've stayed at it in Germany. A really nice feature to the hotel is the view it has to the cathedral. I suggest you look for a room with a view of the nearby Koln cathedral when booking. At night you can see a swarm of bats or birds surrounding the top of the cathedral it's spooky.

This hotel is in an excellent location to Hohestrasse shopping, many little pubs, restaurants and the famous Dom Cathedral. The staff is very courteous, professional and speaks excellent English. I stayed here for a week during a business trip and found it to be an ideal place to call home base away from home. There was free wifi, but I had to log into it each day from every device I had. The breakfast buffet is quite impressive with a very large assortment of breads, fruits, cereals, juices along with the usual eggs, bacon and sausages. However, I was given a discount voucher at check-in for 10 Euros off my breakfast. When I eventually tried to use it at the end of my meal, they told me it was too late and I needed to show it to them before I ate. Really? It's too late? You can't go into your system and change it? Nope. Sorry.

Great staff. Very nice room. Close to shopping and many fine restaurants. The only downside is the construction in the streets that make it difficult to get in and out with a cab ride. Checked out today on June 10th.I would stay here again.

Excellent modern Hotel with Top Location. Good Service, modern clean rooms even if mine had a funny smell. Extra Charge for the health Club is ridiculous! Nice Hotel bar.

I was lucky enough to visit this hotel in October last year, my freind insisted that we go there for the Irish coffee. The hotel is rather ordinary from the outside, however the interior is very well done in a classical grecian/roman style. The bar is pannelled with a fantastic ceiling, rather dark though. The irish coffee's are made on a little stand that has a small pariffin jelly heater that heats the whisky and the sugar before the coffee and cream are added. Very impressive to watch, even better to drink! I can also recommend the champagne cocktails, and they have a very good vodka made from grapes! As you can tell, it was quite an afternoon, very good service and rather expensive. I'm returning to this hotel in Febuary to watch the Cologne carnival, and will advise accordingly.

Perfect service. Good swimming pool. Good fitness. The bar serves very good drinks! I'd welcome a better TV :)
